2010 Collegiate Mtn Bike Nationals

The 2010 Collegiate Mtn Bike Nationals ended up being a HUGE success in our first year competing in the much more difficult, star-studded Division 1. The team ended up 12th in the United States at the conclusion of the weekend. The group of eight riders spent six days in California at the Northstar Resort at Lake Tahoe. Caroline Westray lead the group with the best results finishing 4th overall in the Women's Downhill Competition and 5th overall in the Women's 4X race. A big congratulations goes out to her for making the podium in both of her races! In the 30 mile Cross Country race sophomore Zeb King was the first Mountaineer to finish the race with sophomore Derek Whitescarver finishing six spots behind to both finish in the top fifty. The following morning in the short track race James Wittwer lead the sophomore trifecta to the line with King and Whitescarver finishing shortly after. After the conclusion of the endurance events the gravity guys had their turn at racing in the 4X and Downhill events. Both James Wittwer and Craig Folsom did a great job representing App State in the 4X race. On the final day of competition App State had five guys compete in the downhill race with a top finish coming by senior Scott Phillips in 20th with junior Craig Folsom following just one second behind in 22nd. Steven Trottier, Andrew Mueller and James Wittwer rounded out the scoring for ASU in the Downhill race. It was a fantastic weekend of racing and a huge congratulations goes out to the eight racers who made the trip to California. Many great results came out of our first season in Division 1 and many more should come soon when the team heads to Collegiate Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, Oregon in December! Go ASU
