WVU Race Report

This past weekend the team traveled to West Virginia for the second to last race of the year. Saturday was the Criterium and Sunday was the road race. ASU continued its dominating ways in winning the overall weekend. On Saturday the women A's went 1,2,3 with Ashley James taking the win. Ashley lapped the field and Nina Laughlin and Rachel VandenEnde finished 2,3 respectively. The Men's B saw Derek Whitescarver take the win and Zeb getting 4th (with his pink cast on his broke wrist). Justin had a little misfortune and crashed near the end of the race, but escaped unscathed. In the Men's C Noah Goodson took 3rd with Zion Greenfield and Olu Ogunlela getting 4th and 5th. The Men's A had a strong showing as well. Nick Inabinet got in a mid race move with two other guys and stayed away for 2nd. Andre Vandenberg and Reid Beloni gave Clayton Omer an awesome lead out to secure 4th. Many of the guys and some of the girls competed later in the day in the public race and had a strong showing as well.

Sunday was the road race and it was mostly rolling with a steep short climb towards the end. Zion Greenfield got 2nd in the Men's C. Derek Whitescarver and Zeb King went 3,4 in the Men's B. Ashley James and Nina Laughlin went 1,2 while Rachel VandenEnde had some tough luck and crashed early on. The best place finisher for the Men's A was Clayton Omer finishing 8th.

This weekend the team will be traveling to Virgina Tech for the final race of the year and it's also conference. If all goes well the team should clinch the overall ACCC! After Virginia Tech there will be a three week break and the Men's A and Women's A will be heading to Madison Wisconsin for Collegiate Nationals. So stay tuned.
